Over 80 non-recognised schools of the district have been issued notices by the District Education officer prodding them to apply for recognition for the academic year 2017-18.
“To be eligible for accepting admissions in 2017-18, the schools must apply for recognition before 29.4.2017this year. For the coming academic year, the deadline with fine ended on April 30, DSE Brijmohan Prasad said.
Schools which do not comply within the stipulated period will be seized by the Education Department and closed down, he said. Students from the school will be accommodated in other nearby schools, he added.
While the schools still have a year's grace period as per the RTE before they can be closed down, Mr. Kumar has invoked a government order which empowers the DSE with the authority to close down the unrecognised schools.
