Bermo Circle Officer and Bokaro thermal police jointly raided illegal sand mine on the bank of Damodar river near Khetko village here on Wednesday and seized five tractors.
Illegal sand mining activity was going on near Khetko village. On seeing the cops and local officials of Bermo block, the drivers and others labourers fled from the spot .The Circle officer M.N Mansuri seized the tractors and took them to Bokaro thermal police station .
Police sources said that the mining branch of the district administration is responsible for taking action against illegal miners.
After the raids and seizure, police have sent a letter to the department, we will register an FIR after they will find anything wrong in it, an official said.
Sources said illegal sand mining from dry Damodar river is a big menace in Bermo. The miners dig out several tonnes of sand during the night hours and transport them to other states in trucks and tractors.
Recently Giridih administration seized 150 trucks loaded with sand at Barakar river near Saria which were ready to transport to others states like UP and Bihar.
