Administration here has failed to check illegal sand mining despite the ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal( NGT) owing to the monsoon .

The fact though was known to common masses but administrative authorities  that include district mining department, police as well as administrative authorities here have turned Nelson's eye towards  gross violation of the NGT directives .

Jamtara MLA Irfan Ansari who has remained vocal on different issues made a video footage of the ongoing illegal mining  at Barakar river on the border of Dhanbad and Jamtara  viral. The video footage in which hundreds of boats and  tractors can be seen   mining sand in the middle of the river and those are being  loaded  on Huva trucks for transportation to city locations .

Ansari also reported this to the CM.

Ansari has levelled allegations that sand smugglers and illegal miners are hand in gloves with authorities who have responsibility to check this illegal work.

Illegal mining of sand is on at different locations  both at Barakar as we as Damodar rivers and situation is so that bridges connecting Dhanbad to Giridih via Tundi, Dhanbad to Jamtada via East Tundi and those connecting Bokaro  and parts of West  Bengal  connected  from Dhanbad are on verge of collapse as sand h that are needed to provide strength to pillars have been mined illegally .

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner while confirming that NGT has directed for ban on sand mining owing monsoon said that the mining department  and police  have been asked to initiate action after a meeting of district mining taskforce.

Here it's worth mentioning that in the month of June villagers engaged in  illegal mining had held SDM and other officers captive for over two over two hours  while they had been to raid an illegal mining spot.

Incidentally, the deputy commissioner and other officials made a surprise inspection of an illegal sand mining spot at Nirsa but surprisingly found nothing. He directed  SDPO Nirsa Pitamber Singh Kharwar and  other police and mining officials to ensure implementation of the NGT directive .
