In a bid to check illegal sale of firecrackers in the city, the district administration has decided to take stern steps in this regard, including cancellation of the licence of the vendors found guilty.

The district administration on Friday issued a notification directing the SDO to take steps to ensure that the firecrackers are sold in safe areas. Suitable areas would be allotted for the makeshift shops for the selling of firecrackers ahead of Diwali.

Moreover, the Supreme Court’s guidelines bar firecrackers that are louder than 120 decibels, but the rules will once again be flouted this year. The police have been asked to keep an eye in the Jugsalai area for, it is the most vulnerable zone as far illegal sale of firecrackers is concerned.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Dhalbhum, Prem Ranjan, will call a meeting of the firecracker vendors sometime this week to thrash out the issues pertaining to the selling of the crackers.

“We are working hard to ensure peaceful celebration. Apart from keeping check on the illegal selling of the firecrackers the administration also wish to see that shops are not opened up in the residential areas, to say the least,” said the SDO.
