East Singhbhum district administration has decided to tweak entry timings of heavy vehicles from August 1 in view of traffic snarls.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Ravi Shanker Shukla and SSP Anoop Birtharay issued a directive that heavy vehicles will not be allowed entry to city between 6 am and 11 am.

“After studying the present situation we have decided. This has been done in view of the school timings and also office hours rush in traffic along major roads. We had held several meeting with transport department and other stakeholders and have taken this decision that heavy vehicles will not be allowed either enter or leave city between 6 am and 11 am from August 1,” said Anoop Birtharay.

Earlier, the entry restriction for heavy vehicles was between 6 am and 10 am and  heavy vehicles from NH-33 and also from Tata-Chaibasa road were allowed entry to city between 10 am and 12 noon. However, with the new directive the administration has extended the no-entry restriction for an hour till 11 am to avoid  timing with office-goers and school students which led to mishap  and traffic snarls.

The new directive will allow heavy vehicles to enter city from NH-33 and Tata-Chaibasa road between 11 am and 1 pm and heavy vehicles will be allowed to leave city for NH-33 and Tata-Chaibasa road between 3 pm and 5 pm.

There has been no change in the complete restriction on heavy vehicles entry and exit from city between 5 pm and 11 pm.

Heavy vehicles will continue to ply in the city (leave and enter) between 11 pm and 6 am as earlier.

Incidentally, more than 20,000 heavy vehicles carry goods for industrial units operating in the city daily, especially along Dimna Road in Mango.

Violation of the no-entry curbs would attract a fine of Rs 2,000 per vehicle as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
