The affordable housing scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) launched in 2015 for underprivileged people that promotes the idea of housing for all by the year 2022 is set to get delayed for sometime more in Ranchi district.

The district administration is gearing up for ‘Girih Pravesh Sapthah’ to mark Statehood Day celebration besides marking the achievement of completing the construction of 8,559 houses in Ranchi under PMAY plan. According to sources, few more months are required to meet the given deadline as at most places the construction work has just reached till plinth level.

The district administration team has planned to handover the houses to all the beneficiaries under the scheme from November 14 to November 20 this year. As per the official record of the district administration, so far, completion of merely 100 houses under PMAY scheme has been ensured.

However, officials are of the opinion that almost 6,000 houses construction work is on the verge of the completion and the civil work has reached till lintel level at different places.

The officials have claimed to complete the target in two and half month time as Panchayat Sevaks at each village has been assigned the task of assessing the construction work besides ensuring that the work is completed in a stimulated time.

“Undoubtedly, we will be able to complete PMAY target by November first week. Due to the delay in the launch of the project here in Ranchi, the construction work in the early stage initiated in a slow pace. However, now, the district administration team has been keeping the tab of the civil work progress under the scheme. At some places, construction materials were not supplied on time, this hindrance too has been resolved,” said, Ranchi DC, Manoj Kumar.

The PMAY scheme was officially launched in Ranchi in November 2016 with the aim to provide affordable housing to the urban poor by fulfilling few major criteria as per Government of India norms while providing benefits to EWS (Economically Weaker Section), lIG (lower Income Group), MIG 1 (Middle Income Groups), MIG 1 (Middle Income Groups), minorities and women.

“Physical verification of the newly constructed houses is also being done by the officers. Even the fund transfer issue has been streamlined. Moreover, all the beneficiaries under this scheme are also actively uploading the photographs of the structure that gives us the fair idea of the work progress. As per the guidelines, the district administration team has to release funds in five stages which are being ensured by the concerned officials,” said, the Ranchi DC.
