In view of festive season the East Singhbhum district administration has started taking major steps to streamline traffic. The authorities have set the ball rolling with auctioning of auto-rickshaws stands and parking bays in Bistupur.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal said that any vehicle found parked outside earmarked areas will be towed away by the traffic police and face fine for parking rule violation offence. Similarly, auto-rickshaws will not be allowed to park at their choice for picking passengers.

After seeing response of the Bistupur model the district administration will be following the exercise in other commercial hubs like Sakchi, Golmuri, Jugsalai, Kadma and Sonari.

Traffic DSP Vivekanand Thakur said that towing vehicles and traffic cops would be doing round of the Bistupur Main Road as well as other arteries of the commercial hub from October 1 to see no-parking violation.

The auctioning of the parking lots for auto-rickshaws and private vehicles was carried out by Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) - the local urban body. "Two auto-rickshaw stands (near Kamani Center and near Diagonal Road) were auctioned in Bistupur - for a total amount of Rs 1.65 lakhs each by two different parties. Similarly, parking bays (near Bank of Baroda, Kamani Center, Chuna Shah Mazar, Tilak Pushtakalaya,  stretch from Bistupur police station-Yashkamal Complex, stretch from Diagonal Road to Voltas Building) were auctioned for a total amount of Rs 12.31 lakh," said JNAC special officer Dipak Sahay. The agencies and individuals who have bagged rights for the parking bays and auto-rickshaw stands will have to display parking charts and also no-parking fine for offenders.

Commercial places like Sakchi, Jugsalai, Baghbera are the worst hit places. Police are facing tough times in controlling the traffic movement. The traffic problem is adding to the woes of road users with the congested roads, lack of parking places, poor traffic sense among road users, especially the auto rickshaw and mini buses.

Moreover with the vehicular movement in Telco (HS road), Jugsalai( Station Road), Sonari (near Kagalnagar), Sakchi (Aam Bagan and Kasidih), Bistupur (Rani Kudar), Kadma (Rankini Temple), are drawing heavy crowd and traffic personnel would face the problem in these areas. It is high time that the district administration comes into action regarding the matter before the city start resembling like a mad house.
