East Singhbhum district administration on Thursday re-launched another demolition drive against unauthorised kiosks and makeshift stalls at the Old Court area near district collectorate.
The administration team led by Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar along with Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) special officer Dipak Sahay, Jamshedpur circle officer Manoj Kumar and a large number of police personnel from Bistupur and Sakchi police station carried out the demolition drive removing over 15 kiosks and makeshift stalls from the Old Court campus, behind the Dhalbhum SDO office and barely 30 meters from the East Singhbhum SSP office and the district collectorate.
Reiterating that the drive will continue, Dhalbhum SDO Suraj Kumar said that they have carried out the anti-encroachment drive on Thursday and all the stall owners have been warned that they would be fined by the local police if they erect any structures at the spot.
The local police stations have been directed to keep constant vigil so that vendors do not set up structures again at the spot.
“The drive was initiated by the local administration and the purpose behind it was to make the road clear of any encroachment.
In fact, we wanted to give this Government office premises a corporate look by removing the dingy and clumsy structures that people associated with the lawyers have turned this area into a mess,” said Kumar.
Two excavators and trucks beside over two dozen workers were pressed into the drive, which was being led by the SDO, Dhalbhum. Two sections of policemen were also present there on stand-by mode to handle any situation during the drive.
