Security of women visitors at puja pandals always remains a concern for police. The administration is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a hassle free Durga Puja this year. In a bid to check the incidents of sexual harassment during the festival district police have asked members of various puja committees to install CCTV cameras in their puja pandals.
City SP Manoj Ratan Chothe conducted a meeting with the members of all puja committee to discuss on security aspect of the visitors on Thursday. He said, “All puja pandals have been instructed to install CCTV cameras in order to prevent from any untoward incident during the festival. Moreover, separate queues for men and women will also be in place in the pandals.”
More than thousand security personnel including women constables from nearby rural areas and Hotwar based women battalions would be deployed in Ranchi during the festival.
“It has been decided that each pandal will have at least as many as ten women constable to keep a check on women security. It is usually seen that in puja venues many girls and women become victim of eve-teasing and they avoid telling it to male constable present there, so this time we have decided to deploy women constables in every pandal in adequate number so that female visitors feel free to express with them,” added chothe.
The puja committees are also not taking any chances as they have already started making arrangements to ensure safety during pujas. Secretary of Satya Amar lok Kishan Poddar said, “All the committee members are instructed to keep a close vigilance on the crowd. Moreover, we are going to place two CCTV cameras in our premises one will be at the main entrance gate while other inside the pandal. Moreover, the visitors have to move in two separate queues right from the entrance point.”
