The Ranchi district administration has directed to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against two Tablighi Jamaat women, both foreign nationals, for violating social distancing norms after the duo got pregnant while they were in institutional quarantine here, officials said on Tuesday.
Last week, three women with Tablighi links were found to be pregnant during medical check-up at the institutional quarantine. The administration had subsequently constituted a committee to probe the matter.
Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan said on Tuesday that the probe committee, headed by Ranchi Additional Collector, found that two of the three women were impregnated while they were in institutional quarantine in the city.
“The Additional Collector has suggested in his report that an FIR be lodged against two of these women for violating social distancing norms while they were in institutional quarantine,” Ranjan said.
The three women were among the 17 foreign nationals who were apprehended from Hindpiri locality in Ranchi in March. An FIR was also lodged against them for violating lockdown guidelines and visa rules.
Jharkhand’s first Covid-19 patient, a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, was one of these 17 foreign nationals, officials said. She tested positive on March 31 and there was a subsequent explosion of cases in Hindpiri, the locality where she was reportedly hiding.
However, no FIR was lodged against the duo by the time this report was filed on Tuesday. All the 17 foreign nationals were moved to Birsa Munda Jail from Khelgaon quarantine centre in May. On July 15, Jharkhand High Court granted bail to the 17 foreign nationals.
