Additional Director General of Police Amitabh Chaudhary on Thursday expressed his desire to quit the police services. The 1983 batch IPS officer has written to the State Government regarding this.
Chaudhary confirmed the development to The Pioneer. “Yes, I have written to the Government that I want to quit the police service,” he said. On being asked about his future plans, Chaudhary said, “I will unveil it soon.”
State Home Secretary JB Tubid also affirmed that the officer wanted to take voluntary retirement but the department was yet to receive any formal resignation from him.
Interestingly, the resignation has come when talks are doing rounds about Chaudhary entering active politics. “He has contacted us and shown his positive mood to join the JVM,” said a JVM office bearer requesting anonymity.
“Initial talks have taken place but no final decision has been taken. Most probably, he will be seeking an MP ticket from the party for the next general election from Ranchi,” he added.
The party is looking to cash in on the popularity of the senior IPS man, which has surged of late, after he managed a one-day international cricket match in Ranchi and played a significant role in carving out a world class infrastructure in the form of the JSCA International Cricket Stadium.
As part of its strategy, the JVM has been trying to rope in senior or retired bureaucrats for over two years. Another former IPS officer, incumbent Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar, was the first of his kind to join the party.
