Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) of Central Coalfields limited (CCl), Gopal Singh, has been given the additional charge of the post of Chairman-cum Managing Director, Coal India limited (CIl). Heading CCl since March, 2012, Singh is also serving as CMD of Bharat Coking Coal limited (BCCl). Singh has over 35 years of experience in coal mining industry including over eight years as member of Board of various subsidiaries of CIl including CCl, BCCl, CMPDI and SECl.
During his tenure in CCl, largescale and long lasting organizational transformations have been effected , long pending complex problems have been solved , highest ever production (till that time) has been achieved, environmental and forestry clearances have been obtained, physical possession of land has been taken, greenfield projects commissioned, railway projects have been planned, expedited and completed.
During the period 2009-10 to 2012-13, the company’s coal production was stagnating around 48 MT. Many ongoing projects had acute shortage of working spaces as land owners were not giving physical possession of their land to CCl. The employees were demotivated and demoralized. The company with the same set of employees registered a CAGR of 10.2 per cent in coal production in the last three years and achieved its target as well. MOU rating of CCl used to be “very good” before 2011-12, but 2012-13 onwards it has been “EXCEllENT” throughout.
