Action against parking rogues, Jubilee Park to be congestion free

City police led by city SP Prashant Anand on Monday launched a massive crackdown on unauthorised parking at Jubilee Park road.

Despite series of campaign it seems the citizens of the city are simply not bothered with the ‘no parking’ signs put up all along the main roads. Concerned over the prevailing situation, police embarked upon a drive in which vehicles stationed on ‘No Parking’ zones are simply towed away with crane to ease the flow of traffic.

The drive was launched against illegal parking on the nearly a kilometer road stretch which connects Sakchi with posh localities like Circuit House Area (in Bistupur) and Sonari.

The drive which was carried out under the instruction of city SP Prashant Anand and carried out by DSP (traffic) Vivekananda Thakur and Bistupur police personnel continued for an hour in the noon and in the evening.

“We were receiving complaints from commuters and also visitors to the park not only about problems faced due to illegal parking but also nuisance committed by miscreants who park their vehicles alongside roads and harass women and escape with their bikes seeing police. We have decided to carry out such drive during rush hours at the park (morning, afternoon and evening),” said Prashant Anand.

The park spread in 237 acre witnesses a daily footfall of over 6,000, including some 1,000 visitors daily at the adjoining Tata Steel Zoological Park and 400-odd people at Nicco Amusement Park.

The police have also decided to deploy police personnel at both ends of the road in addition to the private security guards deployed by Jusco (which maintains the park).

“We have decided to deploy police personnel with walkie-talkie at both end (Sakchi and Circuit House end) of the park gate to prevent any miscreants from fleeing the spot after committing any incident,” added city SP. Another official said that vehicles, be it a four-wheeler or a two-wheeler, queued up in a cluttered is a common sight in the city. However with the towing of vehicles they are hopeful to teach the people civic sense.

Unauthorised parking has become a major concern for traffic police and repeated special drives have been launched to provide free movement. As part of tough measures to regulate traffic, Jamshedpur Police have also received wheel lockers to clamp wheels of vehicles at no parking zones. As per the plans, only after paying the fine with the traffic police, the vehicles — be it two, three or four wheelers — can be moved away from the spot.
