Ajit and Abhijeet, the two youths lodged at Birsa Munda Central Jail on apparently ‘fake’ charges of rape and murder of 17-year-old girl Priti, who dramatically resurfaced after a year of being declared dead, may still have to wait for their release from jail as the court has asked for explanation on the remark made by the CID in its report.
The duo has been lodged in jail for about four months for a crime which they actually have not committed, according to their counsel. Even after Priti, whose rape and murder charges had landed the duo in jail, resurfaced, the two friends are awaiting proper procedure before they could be declared innocent officially.
“The court while hearing the case on Thursday has asked the prosecution to file rejoinder on the remarks made by the CID in its investigation report,” said Senior Public Prosecutor BM Sharma. The case will be heard next on Saturday, he added.
Chandan, elder brother of Ajit, however, disclosed that the court has objected on the term ‘tatkal’ (for now) used by the CID it its report. “This term ‘tatkal’ has created controversy which says that the three youths have been found innocent for now for which the court now seeks explanation that what exactly the CID intended to say with this term,” said Chandan.
Chandan also held the police responsible for lingering the case preventing to quick release of his brother. He also tried to meet DIG Praveen Singh on the issue.
“The prosecution wants to save the skin of the mistakes done by the police in this case which is actually posing problems for us,” added Chandan.
The family of Ajit want that his name should be removed from the case at this point in time, otherwise he will have to appear in the court till the disposed off.
“We expect that my brother will be released on Saturday,” added Chandan.
On February 19, a police probe suggested that the victim was gang-raped and killed before being set afire. The trio’s ordeal started when a girl’s partially burnt body was recovered from an isolated place between Gosaidih and Majhi Toli in Bundu police station area, about 40km from district headquarters, on February 15.
According to the Police report a girl hailing from Sai Colony, Chutia, had gone to Dhurwa dam with her boyfriend Ajit for a Valentine’s Day date where she was gang-raped and killed by him along with the help of his friends Amarjit and Abhimanyu. The girl’s parents ‘identified’ the body leading to the arrests.
