Accidents, brawls mar Holi celebrations

Even as the entire city was drowned in Holi celebrations the festival turned sour for many due to untoward incidents as a result of accidents and brawls reported from different parts of the city.

More than three dozen cases of injury were reported to at two Government hospitals — Sadar Hospital and Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Around 15 cases of injury as a result of assault were reported to Sadar Hospital with one serious case which was referred to RIMS for proper treatment. Most of the patients brought at Sadar Hospital were discharged on the same day.

Road accidents topped the list of cases that were reported at RIMS and most of the cases involved head injury with one patient confirmed dead by the RIMS administration.

The Government owned institution received around 40 cases of road accidents and two cases of injuries sustained in assault.

“Maximum numbers of cases are related to head injury and some have been kept under observation due to the severity of the injury. One patient has died due to head injury,” said Director RIMS, SK Chaudhary.

Interestingly, no arrests were reported on the day of the festival and by timely intervention cases were solved before it could take serious turn. Drunken driving and sporadic cases of brawl kept police on its toes on the day of the festival.

“The festival passed peacefully barring few cases of brawl that were reported on the day. Nonetheless, the clashes were sorted out on the spot by the police. No significant arrest has been made,” said City SP, Jaya Roy.

Meanwhile, around 16 patients brought in a serious condition from Hazaribagh to RIMS on the eve of Holi. The patients had sustained injury just a day before Holi when the bus turned turtle and are said to be in critical condition.
