An air conditioned coffin! This AC coffin is with the Prakash Chand Jain Sewa Sadan here in Daltonganj.
The secretary of the PC Jain Sewa Sadan Suresh Jain said this AC coffin is available to both rich and poor alike . It is given on request of the bereaved family.
No fee is taken for this if any rich or poor wants to have the body kept in this AC coffin. However Suresh Jain said the bereaved family which wants AC coffin has to bear the cost of transportation of both sides like taking down this from sewa sadan and again returning it there.
This AC coffin was purchased in Hyderabad said Suresh. It cost 65,000 some years back. However 40,000 rupees was spent on its transportation by road from Hyderabad to Daltonganj. Suresh Jain said as this AC coffin is highly delicate extra care is taken .
It is disinfected after every dead body kept in it.
The AC coffin can preserve the body at minus two degree temperature for 12 days with the condition that it gets continuous power supply.
On being asked as to why no fee is charged Suresh Jain said “Ours is a humanitarian effort . There is no commercialization of this at all.”
He said there comes many an occasion here when residents of Palamu die in far flung areas in India also in foreign countries and in such episode bodies are brought in from distant and remote areas and its keeping becomes a big problem then.
He said all that our concern is that AC coffin is taken care of properly by the bereaved families so long it remains with them
