In a bid to conduct free and fair Student Union election this year, the members of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday met Governor, Droupadi Murmu and submitted a memorandum demanding some electoral reforms.

The memorandum primarily highlights on seven major agendas. From introducing one format for conducting election in all the five State-owned universities to carrying out the student union election both at university and college level at the same time to manage wastage of resources.

The members in their memorandum have also mentioned that in a bid to empower the Student Union, the Head of the Student Union must be included in the Senate Committee of the university. Meanwhile, to curtail the delay and lapses that are often faced during the election, besides the uniformity, the election at all the varsities must be conducted on the same day.

Considering the demand of students especially in designing the courses at par with the other universities, the members have urged to the Governor to ensure that Head of Student union must be included in the Academic Council as well. looking at the delay, the members have demanded that all universities must release their academic calendars.

The members during the meeting also emphasized on the fact that after the student election gets complete, no efforts is ever taken from the university side to focus on the importance of student union that plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap while putting forward the demands of the students.

Notably, few days back, Ranchi University VC, Dr. RK Pandey had instructed to all the college Principals to complete the admission process in both UG and PG courses by the end of August for preparing the electoral lists.
