The first modern abattoir situated at Arsandey, Kanke formally started functioning from Wednesday on trial basis. The slaughter house constructed at a cost of Rs. 15.5 crore was recently inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Shaantanu Kumar Agrahari and Deputy Mayor Sanjiv Vijayawargia.
A Noida based firm — Micro Transmission Systems (MTS) has been given the charge of operation and maintenance of Kanke Abattoir, decked up with all hi-tech facilities. According to the officials of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), as many as 200 goats have been brought for slaughtering there.
The Municipal Corporation has released the rate card recently where pure khassi will be available at Rs 500 per kg. The meat culled in hygienic conditions at the slaughterhouse will be available at four model meat shops set up by the company under the guidance of RMC.
The four model shops have been set up at Booty More, Madhukam, Morhabadi
and Kantatoli. According to RMC Officer (PR), Naresh Kumar Sinha, the abattoir has the capacity of handling more than 2,000 goats daily in two shifts.
Kumar added MTS is also working on upgrading the infrastructure of the abattoir besides just starting the operation. Notably, the civil structure of the abattoir was damaged in the heavy rain a while ago.
“After getting clearance from different agencies, we have started the trial. From July 5, we will start sending meat to four model shops,” said Shahid Syed, Manager of Noida-based Micro Transmission System (MTS). According to the contract clause, from slaughtering of animals to processing to packaging, every activity will be carried out at the abattoir under expert supervision appointed by the firm.
Further, when enquired about the project expansion, Syed added that the
company has initiated the operation with 100 goats on a daily for the time being while the service will be expanded soon after getting the response from the market.
On the other hand, RMC will soon begin the task of closing meat shops operating roadside violating the norms. According to the newly approved guidelines of municipal licence (for sale of flesh, fish and poultry), regulation, 2017, all poultry sellers have to sell only those poultry products which are properly slaughtered at an abattoir under the experts’ supervision.
