The multi-media exhibition, ‘Memory,’ by Frederick Bourbon concluded here on Friday. The art lovers of the city enjoyed the exhibition and were spell-bound by the work done by the artist as they walked through the gallery.

Organised by Alliance Francaise de Bhopal, the exhibition was inaugurated by Jean Raphaël Peytregnet, Consulate General of France in Mumbai, and was put up at Alliance Francaise de Bhopal Art Gallery.Hailing from Bhopal, Frederick Bourbon is currently studying in the USA. He has also learnt cinematography and has used his talent in film-making. The exhibition was divided into two sections, videography and photography.

The exhibition was a presentation of photography and moving images trying to evoke a sense of something familiar, something from the past, a sense of memory.  He created a visual collage of iconic French films as a part of the video art installation celebrating French cinema.

The artist had displayed the videography in the exhibition through the video art or a mixed media art. This art is an extension of a showcase like any other art presentation, wherein Frederick has infused still images and motion pictures through cinematography. It tries to push the boundaries of imagination through new technique of art installations.  It is a mixture of different medium to unleash creative freedom and self-expression.There was a collection of 20 landscapes, photography and some edited short moving images that includes iconic classic French films such as Au Hasard Balthasar, Jeanne d’Arc , to name a few, the artist’s cinematography juxtaposing with music.

As many as 20 photographs portraying landscapes of urban environment shot in India and in California were on display. The picture collection exhibits the advent of digital photography using extended processing technique ie cross processing and skips bleach that is done during the film processing but has mirrored in these photographs digitally.

The photography exhibits stark contrast in exposure and colour and just as the moving images they express a sense of time and place that feels familiar. The exhibition was like a blend of talents in an expression of the colourful world.
