A BTech Mukhiya who ensures smooth MGNREGA payments

Published on:

Handling registered labourers under MGNREGA schemes is a difficult task as their payments come too late and they raise protests over the delay.  Sometimes my father has to foot their wages,” said highly qualified and perhaps the youngest mukhiya of Chiyanki panchayat in Palamu, Binko Oraon, who is a BTech in electronics & communication from DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology, Daltonganj.

She said, “I remain highly conscious of the MR (muster roll) of MGNREGA scheme. Here is the great chance of fudging the things. There are people around who do not wok but duplicate others’ wages. This is a simple case of fraud. I do not allow any such nuisance.”

On being asked as to why despite being a B Tech and a vast opportunity to try luck in some plum job with hefty pay package she chose to become mukhiya Binko Oraon had this piece of interesting tale, “I am born in an inter caste marriage. My father Umesh Oraon is a tribal but my mother Parwati Devi is a Brahmin. It was my mother who had filed the nomination to contest this Chyanki mukhiya post. But her nomination was rejected on the ground of caste certificate found improper. Hence I stepped in as my father wanted me to contest this election.”

Again asked if she has faced any rough situation in the discharge of her duty and responsibility she said, “Recently I warned a fellow who was trying to mint money in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna Gramin  and then his mother came down to my residence and began to shout at us.”

Chiyanki panchayat is a difficult panchayat as it is almost in the urban area, is located on NH 75, big bullies of Palamu live here, has the ancestral house of a former ADG of police Rameshwar Oraon and a fleet of prestigious schools.

Tribal people dominate this panchayat but the population of SC, OBC and minority too is most reckoning here.

Oraon said, “There is a master degree holder Joginder Mushar who tries to befool the poor and illiterate Mushars ( Mushars are the most depressed and deprived class of people and they have this name Mushar on account of their habit of eating Mus which means rat!) and pocket their money coming to them for PMAY G house and when I restrict him from doing all this he goes on a malicious campaigning against me.”

Binko said, “I have reported this matter to Sadar CO giving details as to what is happening in the Mushar locality which is located on the foot hill of Chiyanki pahar.”
