The Naxal – hit, Bhelwaghati, about 65 Km from the district headquarters at Giridih, is again in news and that too, for a wrong reason.

A group of at least two anti-social elements allegedly picked up a 14-year-old girl, while she was on her way to the nearby river bank for taking bath at Bhatukurha village under Bhelwaghati police station area of the district. Later, the perpetrators forcibly took the victim towards the dreary and bushy areas and raped her. After committing the crime, the perpetrators, thrashed the minor girl and threatened to kill her, if she dared to cry or raise an alarm.  Later, they left the victim girl in an unconscious state and fled from the spot.

The victim girl, however, managed to reach her home by 11 pm and narrated the entire woes to her parents.

Although the incident took place on April 30, it came into light only after the victim’s parents, with the help of one of their relatives, visited the Bhelwaghati police station on Saturday and informed the concerned police authorities in this connection.

The Bhelwaghati police have, however, arrested two local youths, identified as Sanju Marandi and Sona Ram Marandi.

“Soon after getting information, the Bhelwaghati police visited the site of occurrence and looked into the matter. Our investigation is still going on in this regard, but on the basis of a written application given by the victim’s mother, the police authorities have arrested two local youths, who, as per the victim’s mother, had committed this heinous crime”, said DSP –I, Sanjay Rana, and added that the perpetrators were forwarded jail on Sunday morning.

The perpetrators and their family had threatened the perpetrators for dire consequences, if they disclose the entire incidents or inform the police authorities in this connection. But distressed over the entire incident, the victim’s parents contacted one of their son- in-law and discussed the issue. Later, on May 6, the victim girl, along with her parents and her brother-in-law, visited the local police.
