Although a delayed acknowledgement by more than a year, Nilamber Pitamber university finally accorded status of coronavirus warrior to as many as 62 volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) who had worked hard during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 said sources.

A felicitation ceremony was held under the stewardship of the VC Ram Lakhan Singh in the JS college Daltonganj where officials of the university were in attendance.

University's programme coordinator Vibhesh Choubey said 9 colleges of this university took part in the felicitation ceremony. One college situated at Bhawnathpur just didn't turn up.

Choubey said the volunteers had done all in that pandemic like distribution of masks and sanitization and on some occasions food for the migrating labourers also.

Sources said the VC got it done to enthuse students with  a sense of belongingness to the society.

Bestowing a warrior cap is a motivational push for other students to join the NSS, said Choubey.

Sources said the felicitation ceremony was a kind of invitation to many other students who just sit on the fence and squander time in pondering over what to do.
