A six-day-old kotra (Barking deer) has been rescued by deputy director north of PTR AK Mishra from village Salatoowa under Chainpur police station which does not come under tiger reserve.
Confirming this Misra said the barking deer is being fed cow’s milk at his official residence as it will be life threatening for it to be released into the jungle.
Cow’s milk too has been diluted by 40 per cent of water in order to make it digestible to this barking deer. Its umbilical cord is still green (not dry). Villagers had this wild life with them when someone telephoned Mishra to take it back. No case has been lodged as the villagers in fact had saved this barking deer from an imminent death in this incessant rain lashing Palamu over the last three days.
