The Monsoon session of Jharkhand Assembly will begin on Friday 29 July. The ninth (Monsoon) session of the fifth Jharkhand assembly will start at 11am on 29 July 2022 and it will continue till 5 August.

The Monsoon session will be of six days with holiday on 30 and 31 July being Saturday and Sunday, respectively. In this session, the state government has made preparations to re-introduce the Anti-Mob Lynching Bill and important bills related to the establishment of Tribal University in the State. Both these bills were passed by the Assembly earlier, but due to the difference in their Hindi-English translation, the Governor returned them without signing them.

Last year, the State Assembly cleared the Prevention of Mob Violence and Mob Lynching Bill, 2021 that provides for jail terms ranging from three years to life imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 25 lakh against those involved in mob lynching leading to “injury or death” of an individual.

Similarly, last year the state assembly passed the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Tribal University Bill 2021, paving way for opening of the institution in Jamshedpur.

Sources said that apart from these bills, the Monsoon session of Jharkhand Assembly is going to witness stormy scenes as BJP is likely to corner the government on several issues including law and order issue, communal violence and other issues.

On Thursday the state BJP held a meeting where the strategy of the party for the monsoon session was chalked out. However, sources said that BJP legislature party chief Babulal Marandi will not be able to attend the monsoon session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly starting from Friday as he has tested Corona positive.

The test report came today after Marandi, having common symptoms of Covid-19 gave his sample. He gave this information through a tweet advising people who come in contact with him in the past to get a corona test done. Marandi’s condition is normal and he is taking medicines according to the corona symptoms.

Also, in the all-party meeting convened by the Speaker regarding the preparations for the assembly session, it has been agreed to hold a special discussion during the session on the drought situation arising in the state. The state government will also present a supplementary budget for the current financial year.

Assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahato has directed the officials of all the departments of the state to be present in the officers' gallery of the House. The Chief Secretary has been directed to ensure the presence of the officers of the departments during the session, so that the questions of the members can be answered properly by the government. He has also told the departments of the government that before placing any bill on the table of the House, its drafting check should be done. Special care has been given to ensure that there is no error in the language.
