The 500 MW unit of Bokaro Thermal Power Station has been shut due to boiler tube leakage for last 13 days, DVC sources said.
The works in several parts of the tube carried out for last 13 days but the fault couldn't be rectified, power production in the 500MW unit of Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS) came to a halt, as the unit was shut down on October 23.
DVC and BHEL engineers were involved in the work but after around 13 days the exact fault could not rectified, sources said.
The worn-out parts would be replaced with new ones, sources added.
Despite such an issue no senior management officials have visited the plant till now ignoring such a heavy loss of Rs 2 crore per day. One of the units at BTPS-A has a production capacity of 500 MW.
BTPS, a unit of DVC has added another 500 MW it's existing capacity.
The newly installed facility has completed a successful trial run of 72 hours and is after getting clearance from DVC, unit was already been put into a commercial power generation, sources said
BTPS project head Kamlesh Kumar said, "All efforts are being on and hope unit of 500 MW would be lit up very soon added Kumar.
The BTPS had achieved reputation of being the first and the largest thermal power station in Asia after its inauguration in 1953.
The new facility has come at the same spot. The older units of 50×3MW and55×1MW were dismantled in 2006 and in 2009 foundation stone of the new unit of 500 MW was laid.
However, some important structures of the older facility have been kept intact as historic monuments, Kumar added.
