The 4th Sub Junior Men National Championship (A division) commenced at the state capital’s Astro Turf stadium on Saturday. As many as 16 State teams are contesting.
On day one four matches were held from 7am to 4 pm Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu defeated Hockey Kerala by three goals. Hockey Odisha defeated Chhattisgarh Hockey by 11 goals. Hockey Bhopal and Hockey Andhra Pradesh were beaten by Hockey Karnataka and Hockey Jharkhand by three and five goals respectively.
DRM Deepak Kashyap inaugurated the programme after the matches were over.
Probably, this is for the first time that such a kind of sports meet is being held at Ranchi, claim sources. Speaking about the speciality of the matches, Hockey Jharkhand general sectary Savitri Purty said that they are trying to identify the best talents for the India team. “The teams of Punjab and Haryana are the strongest ones. However, we will try to identify local players also so that they get a golden platform at the national level,” she said.
