A 45-year-old man was electrocuted while he was working with a drilling machine at his home in Mohammedan line under Sakchi police station area on Sunday morning. The victim identified as Masoom Ahmed was drilling his drawing room's wall for fixing light.

As the mishap took place, the family members rushed him to Tata Main Hospital emergency where the doctor on duty declared him as brought dead.

The doctor soon informed the incident to the police which seized the body for the post-mortem.

The tragedy struck when the family was preparing for observing the rituals of holy Ramzan which started today.  The incident took place on the second floor of the victim's three-storeyed building.

Hassin Ahmed, Masoom's elder brother said that they had shifted to the new house recently.  He is survived by his widow and two children -- a son and a daughter.

"For fixing the light, he had brought a drilling machine from one of his friends last night and was doing the drilling work himself by standing on the ground.  He had put on no slipper as such and was electrocuted.  There must be some snag in the drilling machine," said Hassin. Hassin said he was in deep sleep at his house on the first floor at the time the incident took place.

"The man, Masoom Ahmed died of electrocution at his house in Sakchi, but was declared brought dead at the Tata Main Hospital emergency," said a police official.
