With the city going hi-tech, cybercrime cases are also on the rise. In the city, 44 cases of cybercrime have been reported in three months. The crime has shot up this year, going by the increasing number of petitions and complaints that the police are receiving.

The police chose to Jubilee Park and P & M Hi-Tech City Centre Mall for spreading about the measures that may protect the people from falling victim to the cybercrime.

Through large LED screen fixed in vehicles and pamplets distribution, the police carried out the awareness programme first at the Jubilee Park and then near the mall in the day.

While on the LED screen, senior SP, Anoop Birtharay and SP (city) Prabhat Kumar were shown giving tips about how to save oneself from falling victim to the ATM frauds.  On the pamphlets, the police have tried to make the people aware about the cybercrime.

"The cybercrime awareness drive started in the city from today and will continue till the new year. During this period we will cover all the important public places across the city where the people will be made aware about the ways for protecting themselves from the cybercrime, special the crime like fraudulent withdrawal from the ATM," said senior SP, Anoop Birtharay.

The senior SP said as many people tend to visit parks and malls during this period of time, they decided to launch such drive for making the drive a success.

The Internet safety tips that the police shared with the people through the special campaign were if doing netbanking do not share one's OTP sent by the bank concerned with anyone, Keep on changing the password of ATM and net banking, keep a constant eye on the transaction with the bank through net banking and inform that bank concerned about the transaction if get any anomalous call about the ATM number or password.

Concerned over the rising hi-tech, cybercrime cases, the East Singhbhum district police have decided to strengthen its mechanism for controlling cybercrime in the steel city.

A senior police official pointed out that people should be aware of the recruitment processes of major companies in order to avoid being duped. They should also come forward to prefer a complaint rather than withdrawing into a shell and being secretive about the whole incident. Their complaints will help saving other people from becoming victims, he added.
