According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi as per the rainfall statistics released on July 5, the State is facing a rain deficit of 44 per cent. From June 1 to July 5, the State has received 145.8 mm of rainfall where as the ideal amount of rain during this period should have been 260.3 mm.
“On June 30, the shortage of rain over the entire state was recorded at 55 per cent. Because of the low pressure system during the last week and two- three days of active monsoon, the deficit has recovered from 55 to 45 per cent,” said Senior Scientist, MET Observatory Centre- Ranchi, Dr. RS Sharma
From June 1 to July 5, Jharkhand has received an average of 136.4 mm of rain against the normal 246 mm. Sharma also added that the deficit is likely to further reduce in the next one week. “Another rain bearing system is forming over Jharkhand, so a good amount of rainfall is expected in the next one week. Some of the shortfall is likely to further reduce. The rainfall scenario is likely to improve and the insufficiency in the whole state is expected to reduce from 45 percent to around 30 percent,” he added.
According to the weathermen, from July 6 to July 8, all the districts in the entire State are likely to receive moderate rainfall. “The northern parts of Jharkhand- districts adjoining Bihar and north eastern parts- Santhal Pargana region will receive isolated heavy rain,” the scientist further added.
As per statistics, the maximum deficit level in the entire state was recorded at Pakur which has received 45.2 mm of rain against the normal 280.8 mm with -84 percent deficit. This is closely followed by Godda which has received 43.7 mm of rain against the 219.9 mm with -80 percent deficit.
However, the MET Department has forecast that monsoon will be active during the coming week- July 5 to July 11. Rain and thunderstorms is likely to occur at most places from July 6 to July 9 over Jharkhand. Cumulatively above normal rainfall is likely over the state during this week.
From July 12- July 18, cumulatively normal rainfall activity is likely to occur over the whole state. However, above normal rainfall activity is more likely over the northern parts of Jharkhand during this week.
According to the weather bulletin released by the department on July 5, for the next four days- July 6 to July 9, there are chances of light to moderate rainfall in Ranchi and its surrounding areas. The maximum temperature will remain at 30 degree Celsius while the minimum will be between 24- 22 degree Celsius.
