Seventeen food campaigners — under the Right to Food Security — have gone to Ahmedabad to attend a three-day conference under the aegis of Rozi-Roti Adhikar Abhiyan.

James Herenj, a member of the squad of 17, said the conference will begin from March 1 and will conclude till March 3.

Over 42 food activists from Jharkhand, apart from these 17 from Palamau, are to participate in it. Woman activists numbering a dozen from across the State are also attending it. The Palamau contingent went by train here on Thursday evening February 27 said Herenj.

The Ahmedabad conference on Rozi-Roti Adhikar Abhiyan is fifth in the series. Eminent personalities like Harsh Mandar, Balram (Jharkhand) Kavita Srivastava state general secretary PUCl Rajasthan and others are also attending.

Herenj said, “We want that crop grown in panchayats and villages be so procured so that the poor can have access to it rightfully.” Sources said about seven years back Government ration meant for a PDS shops in lesliganj block was looted by the villagers as one leftist organisation had incited them to loot it but in just two days time the poor and the hungry decided not to eat such a looted grain and returned it.

The Rozi-Roti Adhikar Abhiyan is a part of the Right to Food campaign, asserted Herenj, wherein the thrust is now for the leak proof arrangement/implementation of food security provision.
