A 40-year-old woman, hailing from Sai Colony in Ranchi, was found dead at her residence in Punjabi Colony at Tinplate under Golmuri police station area on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as lalita Devi, wife of Rama Shankar Singh. After the probe, police confirmed it to be a murder case as there was an injury mark on the face of deceased woman.
The victim was survived by two children. Her husband and another youth who used to stay at their residence have absconded along with the children.
The police have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary in Dimna for post-mortem. Police has registered a case of murder against the husband.
Officer-in-charge, Golmuri police station Nehaluddin Khan said: “As per our investigation the woman was murdered. We are working on the circumstances that led to the gruesome act. We have recovered the body and sent it for autopsy so that it can be determined whether she was strangulated or killed.”
According to the police, the couple had come to Punjabi Colony two months ago and were staying at a rented house.
“As per the statements of the neighbours, we found that the husband was searching for a job and was facing tough time. It is not known under which circumstances the woman was killed,” said Khan.
“She used to wake up early in the morning and would go out for filling water in the pot. But on Wednesday she did not come. The door of her house was also closed,” said a neighbour.
The neighbours suspected that her husband might have strangulated her to death before leaving the place with the children.
