About 300 people got severely ill with eating poisonous grams at last rites ceremony in Sariya village of Padma block of Hazaribagh district on Friday. All affected people have been admitted to Sadar Hospital, Hazaribagh.
According to the villagers a last ritual ceremony was to take place in the house of Gyani Ram and Ram Chandra Mehto. They have invited the villagers to attend the ceremony. As per the traditional value, the villagers who came to attend the ceremony had to consume the grams.
Pesticide mixed grams were given to the villagers who had come to attend the ceremony. As they consumed the grams started to feel down. The villagers were immediately rushed to the primary health center of the block with illvillagers. The primary health center forwarded all ill persons to the Sadar hospital Hazaribagh.
The Hazaribagh deputy commissioner Mukesh Kumar has directed to the civil surgeon for the better treatment of the villagers. He has also directed to purchase the medicine from the market, if medicines are not available in the stock.
