Erosion of agricultural fields by three rivers in Palamu is a matter of deep concern here. The three rivers are North Koyal, Amanat and the Sone . The Sone river starts from Hussainabad sub division in Jharkhand’s Palamu as it is primarily a prominent river of Bihar. There is a confluence of North Koyal and Sone rivers in Hussainabad sun division.
Palamu BJP MP V D Ram has raised this issue of erosion of agricultural land in the lok Sabha.
The union state minister for Jal Sansadhhan, Nadee Vikas Avam Ganga Sanrackchhan Sanjeev Kumar Balyan has written a demi official letter to BJP MP V D Ram urging him to remain in touch with the state government for the anti flood and anti erosion measures of the Jharkhand government. The Pioneer accessed this letter of Balyan.
Sources said the erosion is enormous in Japla and Mohammadganj and Haidernagar blocks in Hussainabad sub division. The Sone river is the major erosion causing river as once it gets into a spate it causes erosion of land running into hundreds of acres every rainy season.
Sources said the Amanat river if in spate brings with it maund of sand which it spreads over agricultural land. Farmers of Gurha under Panki block re the worst hit.
The North Koyal causes erosion right in the town Daltonganj as it goes through the town.
Sources said there is no anti flood measure except the fire fighting ones like evacuation of human beings from the areas vulnerable to be submerged/ water logged in the rainy days .
The wash out of fertile lands by swelling rivers like Sone and north Koyal just goes uncontrolled with farmers looking blank when their highly fertile land goes into the beds of the rivers.
