Three private companies have shown interest in managing the yet to begin National Sports University at Khelgaon sports complex. This includes Jain Infrastructure Mumbai, IlFS Bengaluru and ITEl who are said to have framed the blueprint of how the university would function within the available infrastructure.
Sharing this information Art, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Director Dadan Choubey said on Sunday, “We had called the invitation of plan for the university set up in the month of February. Four companies had participated here but the blueprint was submitted by three of them. Officials of Tata had also come but did not submit their plan. This was a pre-bid initiative.”
The three companies are internationally reputed in the field of sports, claim sources. “Since model code of conduct is over, we will publish a final bid for management of this university by the end of this month based on the opinions expressed by these companies through a 100 page report,” the director added. Also, the expectations of Jharkhand Government will be mentioned in this bid. Speaking about the fact, Choubey said, “As of now we are compiling data to be published in this bid as our terms and conditions from the bidders. It would mention types of faculty, students and classrooms.”
“We would consider Jharkhand quota as well in this university. It will be for players in each type of sports and courses,” he said. The state sports department is determined to finalize the bidder within one month of inviting applicants for this tender.
Notably, the establishment of this Rs 100 crore budget infrastructure was decided in 2011 when it was inaugurated for hosting 34th National Games from February 12 to 26 in the same year. Website of Sports Authority of Jharkhand (SAJHA) clearly mentions that the university will offer state-of-the-art facilities to enhance the physical and psychological development of young sports individuals. It would serve as key institution for promotion and development of sports in the state. “It will run on Public-Private partnership,” a SAJHA employee said. As many as 25 sports disciplines are planned to be taught here.
