A team of three doctors led by head of the pathology department Ranchi veterinary science college M K Gupta conducted the post mortem of the female bison in Betla on May 18 which had died on May 17.

Sources said samples of all vital organs have been preserved like abdominal fluid, lungs, liver for lab test to be done in IVRI Bareili in UP. Brain was also dissected.

The post mortem team found signs of internal haemorrhage in the female bison that was pregnant too and had a 6 months foetus.

Head of the forest force (HoFF) cum Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Shashi Nandkeolyar said the team of doctors found lungs of this female bison not marbled which in two previous death of two bison the post mortem conducting doctor had claimed their lungs were marbled.

The HoFF said, “We are just not able to say what is taking the life of our precious bison. This female bison had no marbled lungs but she had one nostril bleeding and she banged upon her head against the tree like any lunatic.”

Sources said Betla park is down with 3 deaths of bison but its fighting spirit is not down as sources said the HoFF is exploring all avenues to curb, contain, save and prevent any more fatality of bison now.

He has sent in 6 experienced forest officials including two retired ones to Betla headed by Premjit Anand an IFS officer who has to his credit a degree certificate in wild life from university of Kent, United Kingdom. Two other IFS officers Abhishek Kumar and V S Dubey are equally armed with degree of veterinary science. One other Sunil Kumar is a trained hand of Wild Life Institute of India Dehradun and two retired officials Sangam Lahiri and Nathuni Singh are a big name in their own way.

The HoFF said, “This team will camp at Betla from today itself. It will assist the Betla team. It will arrange all possible medical advice/ suggestion from top notches in wild life medication or care.”

Nandkeolyar said that the officials are in touch with director Wild Life Institute Of India Dhananjai Mohan too while we are in touch with Bareili based Indian Veterinary Research Institute also.

Sources said three deaths with different strains like marbled lungs in two previous one and non marbled lungs but with one nostril bleeding in the third one. HoFF who refrains from making any loud claim just said, “We are leaving no stone unturned to check this fatality.”

Is bacterial strain mutated here in these 3 weeks? Sources said the question is big but none in a position to answer it. Again three fears one anthrax, second contagious bovine pleuro pneumonia and third croonavirus. All fingers are crossed. The big wait is for test report that is to come.
