Around 3,581 schoolchildren belonging to the age group of six to 14 years left their studies midway in the district during the last fiscal, reveals a survey conducted by the education department here. It comes out to be 28.33 per cent of the enrollment.

According to sources in  district superintendent of education, the number of children going to schools was 30,4749. Out of which 3,581 children dropped out mid way.

The reason behind children dropout are poverty, migration etc. According to sources, children who have quit their studies in the Government schools are instead going to English medium schools in villages. Such schools have mushroomed even in interior areas in the district.

The survey is done every year in months of August and September by collecting information on number of students going to schools and number of those not going to schools. At first, a survey team comprising teachers, members of village education committee and people of the village is formed which collects information about each family. The main object of family survey is to collect information and at the same time highlight the need of education and make villagers aware of the educational system.
