The review meeting of Jharkhand State Disaster Management Authority was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren today at Chief Minister's residential office, Kanke Road, Ranchi. In the meeting, it was decided to declare 226 blocks of 22 districts of the state as drought-hit. The Chief Minister took important decisions while discussing with the officials the drought assessment report prepared by the Agriculture Department regarding drought in the state. The Chief Minister, while seriously considering the drought assessment report prepared by the Agriculture Department, announced a big relief to the affected farmer families of 226 blocks of 22 identified districts (except East Singhbhum and Simdega) of the state.

The Chief Minister said that in view of the drought situation, Rs 3500 would be given to the farmer family for immediate drought relief in 226 blocks of 22 districts. This amount will be made available soon to all the affected farmer families of these 226 blocks. The Chief Minister said that according to the drought assessment report by the Agriculture Department, 226 blocks of 22 districts in the state are in the grip of drought. In such a situation, it is the moral responsibility of the State government to provide immediate drought relief to the affected farmer families. The Chief Minister said that more than 30 lakh farmer families of the state are in the grip of drought and they will get the benefit of it. The State government will spend about Rs 1200 crore in providing drought relief funds.
