Jharkhand State Sentence Revision Board (SSRB) has decided to free 221 inmates lodged in different jails across the State and have already completed 23 years in jail after being sentenced life imprisonment by respective courts.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Board headed by Chief Minister Raghubar Das who believed that everyone in the State should get justice.Remarkably, out of 221 inmates who were freed by the SSRB, 104 are tribals while three are women. Maximum of 100 inmates freed by the Board are from Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi while one each has been released from Sub Divisional Jails of Chas and Bokaro. Other inmates are from Central Jail Hazaribagh (54), Central Jail Dumka (40), Ghaghidih Jail Jamshedpur (23), Medininagar Central Jail (2) and 1 from Open Jail in Hazaribagh.
Addressing the officials at Project Bhawan, Das said that injustice should not be done with anybody. People belonging to Scheduled Tribe in the State are quite simple who mostly commit crime under sentiments.
“A lenient view must be taken towards those who surrender after committing crimes out of sentiments and those whose conduct was found to be satisfactory and have completed a period of 20 years in Jail so that they could get a chance to start a new life,” said the CM. It will give a boost to those whose conduct had been found to be clean, he added.
Das, however, directed that a close vigil must be kept on the inmates who have indulged in crime related incidents while on bail or after being released from the jail. The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary (Home) SKG Rahate, DGP DK Pandey, Principal Secretary to CM Sunil Barnwal, ADG (Special Branch) Anurag Gupta, Jail IG Harsh Mangla and several officials of the law and Home departments.
