Kolhan DC suspends X-Ray technician

Kolhan Divisional Commissioner Braj Mohan Kumar ordered for suspension of X-Ray technician posted at the MGM Medical College Hospital emergency during his surprise inspection of the hospital on Sunday afternoon. During the inspection X-ray technician Mangal Prasad was not present at his clinic during the period when the Commissioner inspected the emergency ward of the medical college hospital along with Additional District Magistrate (law and Order) Subodh Kumar Kumar.

It may be mentioned that over 100 infants have died at MGM Medical College and Hospital in past two months. A four-member probe team headed by Director Health Services Dr Sumant Mishra had visited the state-run hospital's pediatric department following a complaint registered by a Jamshedpur-based human rights body Jharkhand Human Rights Conference. Hospital superintendent, Bhartendu Bhushan was present at the hospital during the surprise inspection.

"I am really surprised. I had never imagined that a government-run medical college hospital will be in such condition.  Patients are lying on the floor at the emergency ward, the emergency ward is running without live saving drugs," said the Commissioner.

He later visited the emergency ward and other departments. The superintendent said that a six-storeyed building is almost complete and that once the construction gets through the problem of accommodating the patients in the emergency ward will be over. The commissioner also took a note of shortage of doctors and duty nurse. He asked the superintendent to immediately make a list of doctors and nurses required for running the emergency effectively.

Kumar, on being queried, said he was focussed on the medicine for treatment of the patients who fall sick by consuming spurious liquor. "I have asked the hospital superintendent to immediately purchase this medicine so that no patient as such should die without getting the necessary medicine," said the commissioner.

Hospital superintendent Bhartendu Bhushan said he admitted before the inspecting commissioner that there are large-scale shortcomings in every field in the MGM Medical College Hospital. A lot needs to be done.

MGM Medical College and Hospital is a government hospital with the facility of 540 beds. Everyday around 1000 patients come here for treatment. It may be mentioned that State Government governed Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital, is an Indian medical school established in 1964. It is situated in the outskirts of Jamshedpur near Dimna. The college's hospital is located in Sakchi.
