200 from Hazaribagh trapped in J-K floods

More than 200 people belonging to Hazaribagh are feared to be stranded in Jammu & Kashmir which is suffering from the calamity of worst ever flood of last 100 years. On Tuesday when CPI leader Razi Ahmad met with DC Sunil Kumar with the family members of some such people, local administration came in action and as it came into the knowledge of MP Jayant Sinha, he also started contacting with the officials of both Central and State Governments.

The family members of the people in J&K who visited DC office on Tuesday said that since last two days no phone calls have come to them and on TV channels what we are seeing is horrifying and has increased our tension. They said that since there is a great demand of daily wage skilled laborers in Jammu & Kashmir and good payment is made there so every year our relatives use to go there to earn money.

Razi Ahmad submitted a list of migrants in which most belong to Katkamdag block while some are from Katkamsandi block. On Wednesday when The Pioneer visited Sultana, Pabra, Bendi and other such villages it became clear that most of the families of these villages are eagerly waiting to get some news about their near and dear ones.

“On Sunday night we had received his last call, he had said that perhaps it is my last call because the double storey building in which I am residing here is gradually sinking in water”, said Nizam Ansari, uncle of Nazim, amidst tears. He said that the migrants of his village were in Pulwama, Sopia and Srinagar. Some were working in tailor shops, some in construction companies and some as independent electricians, fitters, masons etc.

To make the family condition better every year thousands of skilled persons goes to J&K in March to earn more and after six months use to come back. It was the time when their relatives have started counting the days of their come back, but this time the calamity in the ‘Paradise of Earth’ has threatened everyone.

District administration has started preparing the list of migrants and local officials are in touch with state officials who are in touch with central and J&K government. MP Jayant Sinha said that I have already reported PMO and Home Ministry that many people of my constituency are strangled in J&K. I am also trying to take help of J&K officials to trace the local migrants but the situation is very difficult there. He has made an appeal to everyone whose relative or friend is strangled there to take help of Atal Seva Kendra by registering his/her name and address.
