Criminals who stole Jharkhand CM’s Press Advisor Yogesh Kislay’s car and abducted his driver did not know to whom the car belonged to. Police officials came to know this fact from one of the culprits, who happens to be a notorious vehicle thief recently released from prison.

Police have arrested one Ravi, the alleged mastermind behind the vehicle loot, from his residence near Antu Chowk in Morhabadi on Sunday while one of his accomplices managed to flee the scene, sources said.

According to sources, the car used by the criminals to follow Kislay’s Innova car was also recovered. Ravi’s wife has also been taken into police custody. As per reports, Ravi has confessed to stealing Kislay’s car.

“We have arrested two people in connection to the theft. The criminals have been sent to prison seven to eight times in the past on charges of vehicle theft. They were released from prison only a few days ago,” said a senior police official requesting anonymity.

Five criminals had abducted Kislay’s driver when from Road Number-1 of Ashok Nagar on Wednesday evening. They took away the car with the driver and dropped him near Ghaghra Bridge on Ranchi-Jamshedpur Road. An FIR was lodged with Argora police station, following which a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to find the culprits, uncover their motives and trace the whereabouts of the stolen car.

“The board bearing the official designation of Kislay ji affixed at the front to his car was covered as he was not present in the vehicle. The criminals planned to steal the car after seeing it near Argora Chowk and that it was being driven by a lone driver,” the police official said.

He further added, “They followed the vehicle and pounced on the driver when he got out of the car in front of his home in Ashok Nagar. Being professional vehicle thieves, they decided to keep it even when they came to know later that the car belongs to a government official.”

In his confession to the police, Ravi had divulged that the stolen car was moved before his arrest, sources said. The car has been sent to one of the states neighbouring Jharkhand, police sources said.
