On orders from Election Commission of India, State Election Commission will be launching special summary revision of electoral roll in Jharkhand. The month-long process will begin from Tuesday.

“All those who will be eighteen years old by January 1, 2016 and can enrol as a voter, can fill and submit Form 6, along with their photographs and age and accident proofs, between September 15 and October 14 to get their names registered in the electoral roll. The forms can be obtained from and submitted to BlOs,” informed Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer PK Jajoria.

Any objections regarding one’s details in electoral roll can also be registered during this period. Form 7 for deletion, Form 9 for rectifying any mistakes and Form 8a to transfer one’s name from one polling booth to another can be filled and submitted to the BlOs, or SDOs and BDOs.

“On September 16 and 30, the electoral rolls will be read out in village panchayats, Municipal ward offices and RWA offices. Special camps will be organised at polling stations on September 20 and October 4 to receive claims and objections, with BlOs and booth level agents of political parties,” Jajoria said.

SEC had invited all the political parties operating in the state for their support during this process. But the turnout was depressingly low.

Only two national parties, BJP and Congress came forward to meet and support us, stated Jajoria. He further said, “Districts will have to dispose the received claims and objections by November 16. Following this, updating electoral database, merging photographs, updating control tables and preparing and printing supplementary lists will be completed by December 15.”

By January 11, 2016, the final electoral roll will be published.

“We have sent voter slips to the BlOs for aspiring voters to get. In those slips, a message from the ARO, inviting suggestions and complaints, if any. BlOs will also go door-to-door to distribute these slips,” said Jajoria. He added, “In case, there is no one home, they have been given a sticker which they will stick on the entrance to the empty house. These stickers will have the name, contact details and where he can be found.”

“All the forms can be downloaded from ECI website (www.eci.nic.in) and Jharkhand CEO’s website (www.jharkhand.gov.in/ceo). Also, every service pertaining to voters’ list can be accessed at National Voter’s Services Portal,” Jajoria said.

CEO also instructed the District Election Officers all across the State via video conferencing to comply with the instruction of ECI. Posters, hoardings and video clips promoting the revision drive have been sent to them too.
