Although smooth traffic control in the city appears to be a major challenge for traffic police during Global Investors’ Summit, normal traffic movement will not be disturbed at all and no route will be diverted for the common people, said offcials. SP (Traffic) Sanjay Ranjan Singh said on Tuesday that the day to day traffic movement will be normalised immediately after giving way to the dignitaries.
“We are not going to disturb the day to day traffic movement. Buses ferrying school children or vehicles of office goers will not be affected as not a single route is going to be diverted during these two days for the common man,” said Singh. It has been ensured that each and every cut en routes the dignitaries is manned so that it remains free of blockage, he added.
“Nobody is allowed to stop unnecessarily at any point so that the traffic keeps on moving smoothly,” said the Traffic SP. More than 1,400 traffic officials and personnel have been deputed all over the City for a smooth traffic movement, he added.
“Fit and smart constables will be deputed on prominent locations while those who do not look fit will be asked to carry on the challan duty,” said Ranjan. No traffic personnel will be allowed to misbehave with anybody, while civilians found involved in unnecessary arguments with police will be booked immediately, he said.
The SP further added that for the convenience of Traffic Police, Ranchi City has been divided into 28 Sectors and 16 Zones and one DSP rank official has been given charge for each of the zone.
“One SP Rank official will assist me while 18 DSPs will be in charge round the clock supported by 35 Inspector rank officials and several other Assistant Sub-Inspectors and constables,” he said.
A training programme has been conducted for each and every person deputed during these two days by the expert trainers from Jamshedpur Traffic Training School together at a point and individually on their posts as well, he added.
Singh indicated that for emergency situations, alternate traffic routes have also been identified apart from the primary route – Airport, Rajendra Chowk, Sujata Chowk, Kantatoli, Kokar Chowk and Dipatoli Cantt.
“Alternate routes like Rajendra Chwok- Namkum- Khelgaon, Birsa Chwok- Harmu Bypass- Bariatu and Main Road - Karamtoli have also been identified and traffic personnel has been deployed on all these routes round the clock so that it could be used for exigencies,” Traffic SP said. As roads remained congested basically due to the presence of foot path vendors on it which have been cleared for the time being thorough special drives conducted in association with Ranchi Municipal Corporation, he added.
Ranjan warned citizens to remain disciplined and do not ride two wheelers without helmets and proper documents as they might be penalized by the traffic police.
“My message for the people of Ranchi is since people from all over the world are coming here; give passage to them the way you give passage to your guests at home and sacrifice some time for them if necessary so that they return with a positive feeling for the state,” said the Traffic SP.
