A total of 111 rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) have been sanctioned for the left-wing extremist-hit district of Palamu. These roads are to be built during the coming financial year. They will cover a total of 389.85 km. Giving details, the BJP MP of Palamu, V D Ram, a former DGP, said the HSCl is the executing agency for these roads in Palamu. When asked if the Naxals will not pose problems in the execution of the project, the MP said, “The security environs have improved much in the rural areas of Palamu. Incidents of extremism have come down. The police will take care of this aspect.” Ram said till now there is no report of HSCl paying any levy to the Naxal outfit.
The MP was satisfied to briref the press here on Monday that the Palamu administration has allotted him a room in the DRDA which will function as Suvidha Kendra for the visitors who come to meet him and in his absence his representative will sit and listen to the people and when he (MP) will be available in Palamu he will sit over there in this Kendra.
He said in order to provide necessary facilities and amenities at this Kendra, Rs5,00,000 will be alotted. As the Palamu lok Sabha seat comprises the whole of Garhwa district, the MP will have another Suvidha Kendra there in Garhwa too. Ram said efforts are under way there in Garhwa for this purpose. The Palamu MP sounded hopeful of getting land for the NP university, engineering college and a medical college this calendar year. The BJP district president, Manoj K Singh, accompanied the MP in his press briefing here and said that the MP is hell bent to have land for these three institutions.
The BJP MP, allaying all apprehensions over land allotment for the NP university, said the chunk of land identified for the university is lying vacant for over 25 years and any talk of displacement is a figment of imagination. About the Kanhar irrigation project ram said the matter will be taken up after the expansion of the Cabinet.
