Reckless driving took its toll once again. At least one person has been killed, while anther two sustained serious injuries when a speeding truck hit upon their bike near Karipani in Bermo on Wednesday morning .
Police sources said the incident took place when a speeding haulpack hit a motorcycle (JH-09K-1569) on which three persons including a woman were driving on. The haulpack run over the rider. The rider namely Sunil Kumar Singh (25), son of Dilip Singh, who was without a helmet, died on the spot while the pillions rider Bigani Devi and Maan Singh got severely injured. Both of them are currently undergoing treatment at DVC hospital. The motorcycle was severely damaged in the accident which occurred in the morning at about 11am.
The haulpack driver and the cleaner fled away from the accident site. However, Chanderpura police station impounded the haulpack and booked a case against the driver for negligence in driving. Meanwhile, enraged villagers blocked the Karipani-Dhanbad road for about 5 hours and demanded compensation for the deceased. They also demanded construction of speed breaker in the area.
A police officer investigating the case suspected that absconding driver could be under the influence of alcohol.
