‘Troubled’ man fires shots in air at police station

Published on:

One Sonu Singh who had fired two shots at Sadar police station in Daltonganj on Monday did it more for his turbulent behaviour than for any reason. A police officer asking for remaining anonymous said the man said he just fired with the rifle. He also said the man hardly bothered for the consequences of it. He knew he would be spending time in the jail but he did this aberration.  Officer in charge of the Sadar police station R Ravi said Singh fired two shots. He was about to go for the third one when our alert officials overpowered him and disarmed him.

It is up to the doctors to tell his rash and irresponsible behaviour, but the man just did what was too bad in the eyes of law, said sources.

Assistant superintendent of police Palamau K Vijay Shanker said the man was disarmed and one empty cartridge was also recovered by the police then. Shanker further said the rifle that he used was a licensed one.

There is a provision for cancellation of arms license in the Arms Act if such blatant misuse of the licensed weapon is found. Shanker said the police have written to the concerned officials to cancel the license of the rifle that Sonu Singh used.

Officer in charge of the Town police station A K Mahatha said the license of the rifle is in the name of the father of Sonu Singh. Sonu Singh’s father Sadhu Singh is the next door neighbour of the Sadar police station. Sonu Singh lives just too close to the Sadar police station but despite this the man showed terrible aberrations.

Sources said in Palamu it is a status symbol if one has a license for a gun. Sources said during the peak of the extremism here even women here were licensed arms holders.

The ASP said he is taking feedback from the people as to what are the areas where police can make an outreach for common man. However, the young IPS officer said people of this place know far more to poke their nose in supervision of the cases. He said the naivety of the people here is not that which looks from above as many of them come out as to how police should proceed in the case suggesting even sections of the penal code.
