Wherever one is on the way back to God, the Gita will shed its light on that segment of the journey,” said Swami Ishwarananda Giri, a senior sannyasi of Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS), addressing over 500 attendees in a satsanga on the Bhagavad Gita at YSS Ranchi ashram on Saturday.
In this talk live-streamed to an audience of over 3,000 people via the YSS Online Dhyana Kendra, Swamiji presented an introduction to the book Ishwar-Arjun Samvaad (God Talks with Arjuna), a unique interpretation of the Bhagavad Gita by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda. Yoganandaji is the author of the bestselling spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi, and founder-Guru of YSS.
On this occasion, Swamiji also launched the e-book version of Yoganadaji’s Ishwar-Arjun Samvaad. “The Bhagavad Gita has been revered by truth-seekers of both the East and West, yet its deepest meaning, cloaked in allegory, has remained obscure,” Swami Ishwaranandaji shared, adding, “In Ishwar-Arjun Samvaad, Yoganandaji offers a translation and commentary of unparalleled scope and vision.”
How does the Bhagavad Gita guide us in the Spiritual Battle and Ultimate Victory in Everyday Life? “The entire knowledge of the cosmos is packed into the Gita. Supremely profound yet couched in revelatory language… the Gita has been understood and applied on all levels of human endeavour and spiritual striving,” Swamiji quoted Yoganandaji in his talk.
In his satsanga, Swamiji elaborated upon Paramahansaji’s commentary, explaining through analogies and anecdotes how the presence of Kauravas (bad tendencies) within us impedes our spiritual progress, and how nurturing the Pandavas (good tendencies) within us will eventually bring about the defeat of those Kauravas in the inner battle of Kurukshetra, thus leading to the attainment of the ultimate goal of Self-realization.
In conclusion, Swamiji reiterated the assurance for a true devotee as shared by Yoganandaji in his commentary: “Through steadfast practice of yoga meditation, renunciation of desires and attachments by loving dedication of all actions to God, repentance, and right resolution, not only can the righteous attain liberation, but even the wickedest of men may speedily emerge from sin into sanctity, from ignorance into the healing light of wisdom.”
Paramahansa Yoganandaji, the author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, interprets the Bhagavad Gita with divine insight. In his interpretation, exploring its psychological, spiritual, and metaphysical depths — from the subtle causes of everyday thoughts and actions to the grand design of the cosmic order — Yoganandaji presents a sweeping chronicle of the soul’s journey to enlightenment.
Clearly outlining the Gita’s balanced path of meditation and right activity, Paramahansaji shows how we can create for ourselves a life of spiritual integrity, serenity, simplicity, and joy. Through our awakened intuition, we come to know the right course to take at every crossroad on the path of life, to determine what shortcomings are holding us back and what positive qualities are moving us forward, and to recognize and avoid pitfalls along the way.
