‘Raktveer’ cops donate blood to save lives

Director General of Police (DGP) Neeraj Singa has asked SPs of the districts to hold blood donation camps in their respective districts every first Saturday of the month in order to fight the crisis of blood in blood banks, police said on Sunday.

The blood donation camps will be set up in the police line here. Police sources said the average strength of a police line in Jharkhand is 800 to 1,200 per constabulary. Palamu has a strength of 1000 cops available to donate blood.

SP Palamu Chandan Kumar Sinha said, “This Saturday, our boys donated 51 units of blood. The donor cops are called Raktveer.”

The blood donation by the cops was done willingly by many cops as donating blood in the Sawan month was seen as a God’s grace, said cops here.

Sources said the atmosphere at blood donation camp either becomes too overbearing or too solemn but here in the police line Daltonganj there was humour all around.

Everyone there in the blood donation programme at the police line had a chuckle on the face under cover of the mask. It was the SP who two weeks ago donated one unit of blood for a road accident victim Salman of Hussainabad sub division in this district.

Deputy superintendent of police Surjit Kumar said rare blood groups were collected like AB negative and A negative among 51 units of blood collected in a single start here.

The SP said, “We will over a period of time try to hold such blood donation camps at other police stations located away from Daltonganj.”

There are around 50 such police institutions like police stations, Mahila thanas,  cyber thana, SC, ST thana, outposts pickets etc in Palamu.
