State BJP Spokesperson Pratul Shahdev accused the leaders of all the opposition parties, including JMM executive president Hemant Soren, of politicising the death of farmer Lakhan Mahto, a resident of Chanho. Shahdev said that the Opposition is trying to term the death of Mahto as suicide connecting it with loan and is trying to misguide the masses. Shahdeo said that on July 27, 2019, son of Lakhan Mahto, Suraj Kumar had lodged a case at Chanho police station, in which he had clearly written that his father's death was due to falling in a well. And no one is responsible for this.
Apart from this, the total cost of the well in question was Rs 3.54 lakh, in which the payment of Rs 2.01 lakhs as labour charge and material was paid to Late Lakhan Mahto. The balance was to be given directly to the supplier and no one had to give anything to the Lakhan Mahto. The Mahato family has their own pucca house and there is good farming of gourd and bitter gourds so that there is good income. There was also a considerable amount of grain in his house.
Therefore, it is not good to make unrestrained statements by the Opposition, he said. Earlier, also the Opposition had leveled charges of hunger death and farmer’s suicide many times, but this allegation turned out to be false all the time.
This time their allegations are totally baseless, which shows their desperation and frustration.
