The Kailash Styarthi Children’s Foundation will launch “Mukti Carvan”, a nationwide campaign on wheels against organised crime of trafficking in India. The campaign, which is scheduled to be launched on September 11 will mark the beginning of a moment against trafficking reinforced with the combined strength of the Government, judiciary, SCPCR, civil society organisations, Department of Labour, Partner NGOs and the people of Jharkhand.
Speaking in a press conference here on Monday Omprakash Pal, Director, Campaign, Kailash Styarthi Children’s Foundation, said, “The brutal killing of Soni Kumari in Jharkhand, who had been lured to Delhi for employment has reiterated the urgent need to sensitise the common people on the reality of trafficking. Every year about 10,000 children are trafficked from Jharkhand. The campaign is an attempt at generating awareness in villages and towns prone to human trafficking. ‘Mukti Carvan’ aims to put a stop to such savagery and ensure that people are aware of the preventive procedures in place to combat trafficking.”
Children are mostly enticed to through placement agencies and are taken to Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Mumbai and Kolkata, where they end up in brothels, forced labour, sex rackets or as domestic workers, he added.
The Carvan will sensitise people on the perils or sending their children away through street-plays pamphlets, wall writings and pledge signings and awareness camps on child abuse and need for immediate education to stimulate the masses, said Omprakash.
The Carvan will cover 13 districts of the State including Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, Latehar, Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Koderma and Giridih.
